How to Give Terminal Care to a Dying Parent

By Kum Martin

Usually, as children we reconcile to the fact that sooner or later we will have to care for our parents because of deteriorating health and age. However, when your parent is diagnosed with a terminal illness, it can be devastating for you. Giving terminal care to a dying parent is not easy. Usually, this type of care is given when the life expectancy is less than 6 months.

Talk to your parent about terminal care and other treatment options. Find out what your parent wants. At times, your parent may not be ready to give up treatment options to prolong life. Hence, their wishes should be fulfilled. However, warn your parent about the possible side effects after discussing the same with the doctor. If your parent does not want to suffer from the side effects, then terminal care would be the only option available. This concentrates on making the person feel more comfortable during the last stages of the disease.

Speak to your parent about making end of life care decisions. If your parent is lucid and able to make decisions, then find out whether they want to spend the last days of their life at home or in a hospital. This is important from your parent's point of view, as it will reduce emotional stress and also let them choose where they die. Generally, people with terminal disease want to spend their last days surrounded by their loved ones and in familiar surroundings.

Make sure that your parent gets palliative care during the last stages of their disease. This will keep your parent comfortable and reduce symptoms associated with the disease. The doctors may medicate your loved one for pain and other uncomfortable symptoms that they may experience, such as nausea, shortness of breath or constipation. It will also provide you with some relief, as palliative care tries to ease the burden of the primary caregiver. It gives emotional, spiritual and physical support to both the patient and family members. Speak to your parent about hospice care, as it will allow your parent to die with dignity and grace.

When your parent is lucid, find out about what plans they have in place for their funeral. It sounds morbid to be discussing such a topic even before the person passes away, but it will allow you to fulfill your parent's last wishes. This may not be necessary if your parent has made a living will.

An important part of terminal care is providing emotional support to the dying person. This is extremely challenging, as everyone involved will be emotionally fraught. Hence, you would have to get your emotions under control and be there for your parent. Speak to your loved one and find out what they want. At times, they would just want you to listen. Address any spiritual need by calling on a religious leader. If they want to reminisce about the good old days, make sure you listen actively and also speak about those days. Try to spend as much time as possible with your parent, while ensuring that they are comfortable and pain-free.

Top Five Regrets of the Dying

By Bronnie Ware

For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last three to twelve weeks of their lives.

People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality. I learned never to underestimate someone's capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal. Each experienced a variety of emotions, as expected, denial, fear, anger, remorse, more denial and eventually acceptance. Every single patient found their peace before they departed though, every one of them.

When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced again and again. Here are the most common five:

1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people have had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.

It is very important to try and honour at least some of your dreams along the way. From the moment that you lose your health, it is too late. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.

2. I wish I didn't work so hard.

This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.

By simplifying your lifestyle and making conscious choices along the way, it is possible to not need the income that you think you do. And by creating more space in your life, you become happier and more open to new opportunities, ones more suited to your new lifestyle.

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.

We cannot control the reactions of others. However, although people may initially react when you change the way you are by speaking honestly, in the end it raises the relationship to a whole new and healthier level. Either that or it releases the unhealthy relationship from your life. Either way, you win.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying.

It is common for anyone in a busy lifestyle to let friendships slip. But when you are faced with your approaching death, the physical details of life fall away. People do want to get their financial affairs in order if possible. But it is not money or status that holds the true importance for them. They want to get things in order more for the benefit of those they love. Usually though, they are too ill and weary to ever manage this task. It is all comes down to love and relationships in the end. That is all that remains in the final weeks, love and relationships.

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called 'comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content. When deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again.

When you are on your deathbed, what others think of you is a long way from your mind. How wonderful to be able to let go and smile again, long before you are dying.

Life is a choice. It is YOUR life. Choose consciously, choose wisely, choose honestly. Choose happiness.

Suspended Animation

Stopping signs of life and starting them again might seem like pure sci-fi—but according to cell biologist Mark Roth, it's very possible. Roth says that by carefully using a toxic gas, he can induce suspended animation in small mammals. He's hopeful that the stuff could be used to help save lives in emergency rooms and surgery wards. Signs That Your Deceased Loved One is With You

I'd like to invite you to call in to my podcast this week because my guest, Sheryl Glick, is going to be sharing some stories about how she has interacted with her deceased loved ones. She will tell you what signs to watch for—numbers, names, birthdays, objects in our path, symbols. All these are relevant and not coincidence.

Sheryl Glick is the author of Life Is No Coincidence: The Life and Afterlife Connection, a fabulous book filled with stories about how she met John Edwards in person and how her mother and father have communicated with her from the Other Side. You don't have to be a psychic to do this with your loved ones. We'll tell you what to watch for.

You are invited to join Sheryl and me in this conversation and learn more by calling  605-475-6350 and entering access code 356172# at 2:00 PM Central Time on Thursday, March 8, 2012. Signs, Signs, Everywhere are Signs!

Sheryl Glick joins Yvonne Perry on We Are One in Spirit Podcast March 8 to speak about her book, Life is No Coincidence. Below is how you can call in and join the discussion or ask your questions about spirit communication from loved ones on the other side. If you miss the event, don't worry. I will the replay link post on this blog after it is recorded.

Have you noticed that the time between thinking something and seeing it manifested is far less than it used to be? Are you seeing that when your emotions, feelings, and thoughts are aligned that your desires (and fears) come into play much more quickly? Do you ever feel like you've known someone even though you just met them? You may think about an old friend you haven't seen in years and within days (hours or minutes) she shows up or calls you. This is synchronicity, not coincidence.

Synchronicity is the experience of two or more events that seem unrelated or unlikely to occur by chance; nevertheless, they occur together in a meaningful manner.

Things we never noticed or paid attention to before are being brought to our awareness. You may see symbols such as numbers on a digital clock or car tags, animals that reappear in your path, synchronicities (meaningful coincidences or event occurring in perfect timing), or other signs.

The week of 11/11/11, I was parked in front of a fruit stand at a convenience store while my husband went in to make a purchase. When I looked up I noticed that the number 11 was printed on several of the boxes. I counted more than five number elevens. Five years ago, I would have walked by without even seeing this.
Sheryl Glick's book is filled with stories like these that show how we are without a doubt connected through numbers, birth dates, names, and synchronicities. After reading Life is No Coincidence, anyone will become more aware of the signs from Spirit and be encouraged to look more closely at things that seem random.

A very interesting and easy read that will inspire you to pay attention!

Dying: Surrounded by the Angels

By Suzy Morgan

My client, Anna, asked about her mom who was in a coma after surgery right before her death. Anna was unable to get to her mom's bedside in time and she died without her there to comfort her. Understandably distraught, Anna wanted to know if her mom had support from her angels and guides and also if she understood that her daughter was with her in love.

The higher consciousness of the angelic realm shares that Anna's mom was able to feel her daughter's love for her as well as her anxiety at not being with her at her time of parting. Once mom accepted that this was in fact her death she was experiencing, she allowed herself to feel her daughter's love. Her resistance left as her angels took over and surrounded her in the comfortable blanket of Unconditional Love.

This guidance and protection is available to us always. However, many of us are unable to allow ourselves to be soothed, just like many of us are unable to avail ourselves of opportunities which could create positive change in our lives. We have been trained not to see beyond the physical, although there is a much larger non-physical world.

Anna's mom, like many of us, was afraid of the Void, the space of the nothingness of all creation. For this reason her friends and families from other lifetimes beckoned her into the Light immediately. Her interpretation is she is in heaven. She is safe. Protected. Permeated with Light. She is able to recover whatever parts of her personality she might have left behind due to her body's deterioration. Of course this is not about the physical aspects but rather the spiritual part that seems to come second in our culture.
The dying do not need to be open spiritually to receive. However, if they are unaware, they may very well miss the signposts. They will "land" comfortably but not on what I like to call, "oceanfront property." If your loved one is in this position, you can beckon them into the light by opening your heart and guiding them yourself toward higher ground, the home of The Light. All it requires of you is a strong intention backed by your love to check in and help if needed. It's always a good idea to ask permission of their High Self first, otherwise it may be considered meddling or worse yet, you may be interfering with the deceased' path.

There is no one in misery in the dead-life unless they create it themselves. They receive what they expect and continue to create their own life as we do here. The difference in the dead-life is that we live in a world of acceptance and love. Here we live in a life of continual delineation of big from little, male from female, young from old. There is no judgment in the dead-life unless we choose to judge ourselves.

Funny characters that we are, many of us continue to do just that. If we passed on thinking we had gotten away with "murder" and we might have, we will value our skills of stealth and negative power. We will still have the opportunity to live in a loving environment. It's our choice. Some of us choose to reincarnate too rapidly before we understand the give and take of unconditional love; or we're on the opposite side and think we've assimilated all this love and won't forget what it feels like.

The challenge arises in the world of separation where we live today. It is the world man creates mentally. We come back into life on earth to experience what we think we know, loving acceptance. However, once we are birthed, we are back into the life of contrast in the physical. We forget it is possible to live life without judgment, without hate and anger. We forget that we are each part of the whole of Perfection.

It is only in our acceptance of ourselves and each other that change occurs for the better and we learn to live life on earth in a state of joy and loving gratitude.

Spiritual Play in Melbourne, Australia

Ian Cameron was reading my book, More Than Meets the Eye, when he got the inspiration to put together a play locally (Melbourne, Australia) to help people learn more about spiritual matters and take away their fear of death. Ian asked me to share the word about his play with my network. The play will feature three or four fascinating real life NDEs told by actors. Each NDE story will be about 20-30 minutes long when spoken aloud. Submitted stories will not be altered in any way. Some percentage of the any profits the play makes can be arranged. If you are willing to offer your NDE story and help create a wonderful an important play, you may email Ian at: give-to-receive[at]live[dot]com and type in "my NDE experience" in the subject heading of the email.

Why Ghosts Make Noise - It's Not For the Reasons You Might Think

By Melissa Van Rossum

Ghosts do some pretty bizarre things to get our attention. As someone who has interacted with ghosts since I was a child, I've seen and heard some pretty amazing things.

And they continue to happen...

Like the other night when I woke up to the sound of pacing in my hallway. There were two different sets of footsteps that night. One had a heavier step and a different pace from the other set. They seemed to be worried about something and they paced for hours.

After a while I was able to block out the noise and I went back to sleep. I realize that sounds like an unusual response, but unexplained noises happen so often in my life I just flow with it most of the time. Too, ghosts are really very egocentric. To them the only problems that exist are theirs.

They crave attention. Which is why they make the noises they do. They go through their days and nights mostly being around people who can't see or hear them. So they do what they can to get noticed. Being noticed often becomes a life purpose for many ghosts since they feed off of that attention.

I received an email recently from a reader who is regularly visited by spirits and we began discussing the creative ways in which ghosts and other spirits work to get our attention. Flashing lights, computer and other electrical disturbances are definite favorites.

That night I woke up at 3 a.m. and went into the bathroom, accidentally dropping something and making a loud noise. "Shhhh.." a bodiless voice said from inside the bathroom. It startled me but I knew she was just enjoying my attention.

She left quickly, so, off I went back to bed. I knew she'd be back. The next day I was downstairs with the kids when suddenly the upstairs toilet flushed. Since no one was upstairs at the time, we all thought this was a little suspicious.

About 15 minutes later it happened again. So, we all went upstairs for a while, and there was no flushing. Back we went downstairs, and again, more flushing!

I left the house for a little while and when I came back my husband said the pattern had continued. As long as someone was upstairs the toilet was quiet. But whenever we all went downstairs, the flushing continued.

Later that night I went up to my bathroom and found the ghostly gal who was working so hard to get our attention. Her name was Sandy and she told me she was lonely and bored. She felt angry and resentful over hard times and betrayals from her life as well as a tragic death. Her energy was a little threatening and distrusting. So, rather than running the risk of losing her again, I quickly turned the conversation to going home. She was ready and with my help, went to the Other Side easily.

Usually people think that ghosts haunt or make noise to scare or intimidate. Sometimes that's the case, but more often than not they make noise to get attention. Ghosts are stuck and unhappy and make noise for attention and help.

Melissa Van Rossum is an accomplished psychic & empath, & the author of two books. In her first book, All You've Ever Known, she shares a process that deepens your intuition & awakens your soul to a happier, more successful and authentic life.

In Their Way Home, My Adventures as a Ghost Guide Melissa offers revealing perspective as she shares for the first time the very personal stories of her encounters with real life ghosts who searched her out in their quest to find a way back home, and how she helped them to cross over in to the Light. Plenty of books have been written about ghost sightings but in this book Melissa shares the stories behind why these souls chose to linger on the earth plane and how you can live a happier life by learning from the mistakes they made in life...and in death.

Melissa regularly speaks to the media & groups on topics such as How to Create the Life of Your Dreams, Ghosts and The Paranormal, and What Happens After You Die. You can learn more about Melissa and her books at http://www.allyouveeverknown.com and http://www.theirwayhome.com.

The Diagnosis of Death

By Dr Muhammed Rafeeque BHMS

The duty of a medical doctor is not confined only in the treatment of his patients, but also there are several other duties to be performed. One among them is death diagnosis, and in case of any unnatural death, reporting the same to the concerned authorities. When a person losses consciousness, a doctor should examine the victim to diagnose the condition and to do the needful. If the victim is dead, it is the doctors duty to declare that the person is dead. If a doctor is not available at the site, the situation has to be handled even by a layman. Hence it is very essential to know the basic techniques of first-aid and death diagnosis.

We all know that, death is the termination of the biological functioning of the living organism. It is the ultimate of every living creature on the earth. Once we are born, it is definite that one day our soul will leave the material body for ever. Scientifically, death is due to complete and irreversible cessation of the vital functions of the brain, heart, and lungs.

STAGES OF DEATH

The death occurs in two stages:

1.Somatic, systemic or clinical death

2.Cellular or molecular death

In somatic death, though life ceases in the organism as a whole, it can persist in different body parts, organs, tissues and cells. The body cells can survive for varying periods and can respond to various chemical, thermal and electrical stimuli. The period of survival of cells depends upon the oxygen demand. And when the cells and tissues die, it is considered as molecular death. Normally, molecular death is complete within 3 to 4 hours of somatic death. However, in common parlance, death means somatic death.

WHAT CAUSES DEATH?

Irrespective of the remote causes, a person dies as a result of failure of any one of these organs like brain, heart, lung. This is called the proximate cause of death. The remote causes may be due to injury, infection, blood loss, poisoning, drugs, tumors, malnutrition, dehydration, starvation etc. A sudden death may be due to failure of systems like cardiovascular, respiratory, CNS, abdominal, endocrinal, iatrogenic, special cases in children, malnutrition, disease, accident, injury, predation, suicide, homicide, war, and also due to some indeterminate causes.

SIGNS OF DEATH

The signs of death can be studied under three headings: Immediate signs, early signs and late signs.

Immediate signs: These signs indicate somatic or clinical death.

- Insensibility (Loss of sensation, movements and reflexes)

- Loss of EEG rhythm

- Cessation of circulation indicated by flat ECG and absence of respiration.

But signs like loss of sensation, movements, loss of respiration, absence of pulse and heart sounds etc are also seen in conditions like prolonged fainting attacks, vagal inhibition, epilepsy, narcosis, electrocution. Hence, such signs cant be considered with cent percent surety. They could however be taken as conclusive only when associated with total loss of EEG rhythm for a continuous period of 5 minutes and a flat ECG for 5 minutes.

Early signs: These signs denote molecular or cellular death, which follow about 12 to 24 hours.

- Algor motris: It is the cooling of the body after death.

- Postmortem lividity: It is the discoloration after death. It starts within 1 to 3 hours and gets fixed in 6 to 8 hours.

- Rigor mortis: It is the stiffness of body after death. It starts 2 to 3 hours after death and takes 12 hours to develop, persists for another 12 hours, and takes 12 hours to pass off completely.

Late signs: These signs represent the decomposition or decay of the dead body, or in certain situations, modification of the dead body into adipocere or mummification. Late signs follow after about 24 hours. The putrefaction of the body is indicated by the appearance of greenish discoloration which appears 12 to 24 hours after death. Marbling is the network like markings on the skin, which comes after 12 hours and becomes prominent in 36 to 48 hours after death. Maggots also starts appearing as a result of putrefaction.

BRAIN DEATH

It is the irreversible end of all cerebral activity, but brain stem is still working. When the brain death occurs, the victim can be kept alive by maintaining the working of heart and lungs with the help of sophisticated instruments and some drugs. The body can survive by maintaining the supply of the oxygenated blood to the brain stem. When the brain stem also stops working, it is taken as a significant indication of death.

SUSPENDED ANIMATION

This condition is also called apparent death. Here the vital functions of the body are at such a low pitch that they cant be detected by routine methods of clinical examination. Suspended animation may persist for a few seconds to several minutes. This condition can be noticed in apparently drowned, newborn, after anesthesia, cerebral concession, electrocution, heatstroke, mesmeric trance, overdose of barbiturates, opium, deep shock etc. Suspended animation can be revived by resuscitation techniques.

DIAGNOSIS OF DEATH

Diagnosis of death is not easy when it is performed immediately after death, specially by a inexperienced person. Rarely, some difficulty can be raised due to suspended animation, excessive doses of sedatives and hypnotics, hypothermia, alcohol intoxication etc. When you are asked to do the death diagnosis, the situation should be handled skillfully. The room where the victim is resting should not be overcrowded. Allow only a few people to be present at the site. There should be proper light, air entry and free from noises and other disturbances.

Inspection: The inspection should be finished in a few seconds without wasting much time. Look at the victim from head to foot and look for any body movements of chest, abdomen, wings of nose etc. Then feel the radial pulse. If it is not felt, go for carotid pulse lateral to the thyroid cartilage (never press both carotids at the same time, feel only one side without much pressing). Then take the stethoscope and auscultate the chest for heart sounds and respiratory sounds. If there is sings of cardiorespiratory failure, give mouth to mouth or mouth to nose respiration along with external cardiac massaging to resuscitate the cardio-respiratory function.

If no response even after the cardiac resuscitation, it is the doctors duty to confirm death of the victim. Once again confirm the cessation of respiration by keeping the stethoscope on chest/larynx for 5 minutes and also cessation of cardiac activity by keeping stethoscope on the precordium for 5 minutes. Feather test can be done to see for any current of air through the nose. Open the eyelids and move the head from side to side. If the eyeball is fixed and moves along with the head, it is a sign of death.

Take a clinical torch and check the eye for pupillary constriction when the light enters the eye. When the body dies, the pupil dilates and the cornea looses its glossy appearance. But this may not be clear immediately after death. And in those who are having eye lesions specially the aged with diabetes, the findings may be confusing. When a person dies, the pallor appear in a few minutes. Look for the capillary filling after blanching the victim's nails. In a dead body, the capillary refilling is not seen.

In case of doubt ECG and EEG monitoring can be done. A flat ECG for 5 minutes is an accepted evidence of death. Absence of EEG waves for five minutes confirms death. However, EEG and ECG are not required to give a death certificate since death diagnosis is possible by clinical examination in majority of cases. However, these tests are having a confirmatory value.

LEGAL ASPECTS OF DEATH
Legal aspects of death varies among different countries. There are difference in opinion on the definition of brain death. However, as per the modern thinking, a person is presumed to be dead if he cant spontaneously pickup and survive when the artificial means are withdrawn. The irreversible brain damage can be confirmed by a flat EEG.
In case of any signs of unnatural death or when the death is unexpected, the cause of death has to be confirmed by a medico-legal autopsy. Unnatural death may be an accident, suicide, homicide, or even may be a natural death but unexpected and taken place under doubtful circumstances. All cases of unnatural death cases should undergo a medico-legal autopsy to identify the exact cause of death, time of death, position of the body at the time of death etc. Hence it is the duty of a medical practitioner to inform the authorities whenever he comes across any unnatural death.

Remembering The Love That Was Ours in Death

By Suzy Morgan

One of my clients who is as interested as I am in what happens when we die, asked these questions about life in the afterlife.

1. "Are you saying that we come back through reincarnation with the intent to remember the love from the other realm (the dead life), but then we forget when we're in the physical?" Wouldn't we know this was going to happen before we're born?

2. "Is there a way to set a permanent intention before we're born so we will positively NOT forget, despite physical challenges? Can't we use a fail-safe mechanism to do this?"

Yes, no,no, no. Hah Here's what I hear from my angelic guidance:

1a. We come into the physical for two reasons. One is to experience life on this beautiful earth. Our experience is based on our level of consciousness. Low level, low life. High level, high life. By levels, I do not mean financial. Levels are a way of explaining life in our world of contrast.

What I do mean is that the more spiritually evolved we are, the higher the level of consciousness we have. Does this mean that at a high level of consciousness we do not experience pain or the pain that others feel? Not always. Often our experience of pain is to help others evolve as well as ourselves. Our experiences and reactions are always about us. It is only how we experience ourselves and each other that we can change. We learn to lead with our heart instead of our investments. Who we are is transparent to those who see beyond their 3rd dimensional (3D) eyes.

We can choose to see things differently, no matter what. A Face Book friend wrote that her husband was murdered. The man was never found. She's learned to let go and be healed. She realized the she had to forgive the murderer or live her life filled with poisonous hate and grief herself. Then the murderer would have killed not just her husband, but she would have wasted her own.

The second reason we come onto earth is to evolve spiritually. This does not mean that everything goes perfectly when we are enlightened or close to it. Look at Jesus, Martin Luther King, and even my enlightened friend, David, with more Near Death Experiences than the cat with 9 lives. What it does mean is we learn to take the high road. We learn to stand up for what matters and release what doesn't. We learn to forgive. To live compassionately. To love beyond the physical.

2a. Yes we know before we are born that life is tougher in the physical, but imagine that all you remember from your dead life is being loved, accepted and cherished. No judgment of anything or anyone. Your past evaporates from your mind's memories. After awhile you relax into a comfort zone of something akin to being dropped off at 5-star hotel in the Caribbean or the Mediterranean, with unlimited money and time to be with the people you choose. It's Nirvana. It's harder to motivate in Nirvana when you already have everything.

On earth, those on the lower end of the scale of consciousness think with our egos wide open, full throttle. We think only about us. We feel entitled to have anything and everyone we can take for ourselves. Those of us on the upper end tend to think of others and ways to make the physical world a kinder, gentler place.

There is no fail safe mechanism except evolving spiritually. We will never go backward on the scale of consciousness. A note of warning. If we are always measuring our deeds, we probably have a few more go-rounds at life on earth.

Human Hibernation

What does animal hibernation, near-death experience, and suspended animation have to do with saving lives? A very interesting documentary about lowering the body's metabolic rate to allow time for emergency medical treatment. See the remarkable video at http://dld.bz/aNJaa

Handling the End of Life Decisions of a Loved One With Alzheimer's

By Brian Willie

Unfortunately, there is likely to come a time in every caretaker's life when he or she is forced to make an end-of-life decision for a loved one with Alzheimer's. These choices are not easy and cannot only take a mental and emotional toll on a person, but can cause intense physical pain as well.

Ideally, before the Alzheimer's progresses to a point where your loved one is unable to make these important decisions on their own, discussions about their wishes should take place while they still have the capacity to decide what they really want.

People with Alzheimer's have a legal right to limit or pass up medical or life-sustaining treatments including the use of ventilators, antibiotics and cardiopulmonary resuscitation as well as artificial nutrition and hydration.

Through advanced directives, Alzheimer's patients can decide whether or not they want to be kept alive artificially should the need occur. To avoid putting pressure on your or another family member, you should encourage your loved one to make this decision as soon as they are diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

It's important to an individual with Alzheimer's that his or her family members do not argue with their decision or associate the choice to not receive treatments or be revived as assisted suicide.

Keep in mind that an Alzheimer's patient reaching the end of his or her life is likely to be in the very advanced stages of the disease and therefore incredibly confused and uncomfortable. For someone in this state, aggressive medical treatment could feel like torture and bring more pain than comfort.

If you are faced with making the important decision of whether or not to keep a loved one alive, think carefully about what he or she may have wanted. Consult with close friends and family members who know your loved one well and speak to doctors about what they believe would be best for your him or her.

The decision is never easy, but may arise, so talk to your loved one before the Alzheimer's progresses and they are unable to communicate to you their wishes.

The NDE Reveals the Family of Man

By Valerie Olmsted

Belief in a Creator of some sort is common; more common than not. Organized religions would have you believe that there is only one God and they are the only possessor of the name of that one. The problem is that God the Creator has more than one thousand names and all of the organized religions on the planet have only a piece of the Truth. Put all of the pieces together and you start to see more of the picture.

The main truth is this: everything you need to know is within, hidden within the human being itself. The only way to the Truth is to connect, through that deep inner portion of us that is the spark of the Creator. Call it the Christ, the Highest Self or whatever, it is that part of us that cannot be altered, the single point of Life...the cause of our existence.

Those who have met the Creator through an NDE (Near Death Experience) will tell you that it is an indescribable Love, beyond anything that can be imagined in this human existence. For those who have been wrapped in this feeling it is difficult to be here on Earth, where this is so little Love. It takes time to be able to reconcile the self with remaining here and it is only the memory of being told we must remain that keeps us here. Some of us remember examining our last life on Earth and agreeing to come back to help, knowing full well how difficult it would be.

The hardest part is separating one's Ego from the attacks of the unknowing. When one returns from the celestial realms one is well aware of how much in fear most of the people here are. Even being aware of the reasons behind peoples' reactions it is still difficult and painful to the emotions to experience it...and to be separate from the all-encompassing Love of the Creator and the helper beings on the other side.

Many people who have an NDE say they came back because of their children or other loved ones. Others have vivid memories of being shown why they lived and what would happen if they returned; they have complete memory of agreeing to come back to help humanity in the graduation process. In this new contract is the realization that the karma of the next life will be theirs to deal with in this one but without the perks. In effect they are sacrificing their comfort in this life as a means of reaching more of the sleepers. Those who choose this path are here to awaken others and prepare them for the leap in consciousness that is coming.

We are being presented with an opportunity that only comes along every 26,500 years or so. In one of those "all hands on deck" scenarios, we are all being asked to wake up and move into a more conscious awareness of our galactic family connections, the Family of Man. Hopefully the majority of people here are up for it.

Resisting Suffering

When we lose a loved one, we go through a multitude of emotions before finally reaching acceptance. We dislike the changes that are occurring and may feel constantly dissatisfied with our lives without that person.

“I don’t like this!”

“I’m not ready to let go!”

“It’s too much for me to bear!”

“This shouldn’t have happened!"

These thoughts come to our mind when we can’t acknowledge the simple truth that everything in the universe is flowing, and that we must flow with life rather than resist it. In denying what is happening, we’re fighting against the universe and the whole of creation. This fight is a lost cause from the very beginning because the universal cycles are very powerful.

When we think about our life circumstances in terms of “it should be this way” or “it shouldn’t be that way,” we ignore the fact that everything happens for a reason, and though we may not know the reason, it is supported by the creative force of everything that exists. Souls make choices on an unconscious level and may depart before we are ready to let go of them. We may doubly grieve if the loved one we lost was very young or healthy or died suddenly through the actions of another person or random event. If we could see the bigger picture from a higher perspective, things would look a lot different.

We try to be strong for ourselves and others during a crisis, but repressing our feelings only traps negative energy that detrimentally affects our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. When our rational mind produces thoughts of resistance, our energy comes to a standstill. It  stagnates and accumulates an excess of negative energy that leads to physical or emotional suffering. Before long, we grow accustomed to feeling bad and this resonance attracts more painful experiences that lead to further accumulation of negativity that attracts more of the same, and so forth.

So what is one to do in order to move from denial, anger, bargaining, and depression into acceptance? There is no right or wrong way to grieve, but there are ways to move through grief more quickly without allowing it to harm your health.

Feel what you feel. Admit that you are angry, suffering, or depressed and ask for Divine help in dealing with your personal response to the situation. God can handle your anger—it’s just an “E” motion—energy in motion. Energy is meant to be in constant motion; not to get stuck in your body where it can damage your cells. Expressing your emotions releases them, so don’t be afraid to cry, punch, or scream into your pillow to let go of the pent up feelings.

Be real. Live authentically by being honest with yourself. Who are you angry with? Why are you angry about your current situation? How does this anger serve you? What worries you most? What would your life look like in a couple of months if you make wise decisions now? Think of the many ways your faith in a higher power can help you now.

Once you have let go of any energy that has lodged in your body and mind, you will have a better outlook on life and will be able to make decisions based upon logic and intuition rather than knee-jerk reactions you may regret later.

How To Develop Clairaudience

Clairaudience means ‘clear-hearing’. It is the ability to ‘hear’ Spirit.

Clairaudience is that little voice inside you that issues warnings or gives guidance. It tends to speak to you when you are in danger or when you have an important decision to make that will impact on your life. If you don’t have clairaudience as one of your psychic gifts, it can be developed. In this article I give you a couple of exercises for developing it.

How to Develop Claircognizance

What is Claircognizance?

Claircognizance means ‘clear-knowing’. Claircognizants ‘know’ certain things without being told. For claircognizants, their higher self or spirit guides put information (in the form of thought) into their mind. This can be a whole load of information that is ‘downloaded’ into the mind. It can be smaller insights about people and situations here and there. It can be an inspired idea. All claircognizance is characterized by this strong sense of knowing that goes beyond logic and by the fact that the intuitive information comes into the thinking mind, not into the heart or the mind’s eye.

End-of-Life Decision-Making - Withholding Vs Withdrawing Treatment

By David Lemberg

Families will struggle with these choices, regardless of whether withholding or withdrawing treatment is being considered. For the ethics consultant, it's good to begin with the understanding that withholding and withdrawing are moral and ethical equivalents. That clears the playing field.

It seems likely that family members who are guilt-ridden - for all the things they did to and for the dying relative and all the things they didn't do - will have great difficulty with any of these choices. As they're losing their relative permanently, all the past can now never be made right. So there's a strong tendency to hold on regardless of the medical circumstances.

Such individuals could never be "responsible" for any proactive choice that would result in their relative's demise. As long as the relative lives, the family member's fantasy of resolving the guilt can continue. And, in no way could they be able to pile on more imagined guilt than they already have.

Withholding treatment might be more palatable, as the family member is only agreeing to the status quo. Withdrawing treatment would require taking action that would change the present circumstances. The family member cannot take on that responsibility in the face of the unresolved issues.

For the most likely small minority of families who are able to let their loved ones go in a humane and medically responsible manner, such questions might not arise.

Matters of withholding or withdrawing treatment depend on the specifics of the case. If there are reasonable expectations regarding quality and length of life, then beginning treatment with targeted reevaluation is appropriate. Withdrawal might be considered at a later date.

If the prognosis is poor from all points of view, and lifesaving measures would only keep the body alive with no other prospects, then withholding treatment seems most appropriate.

Of course, these are hypotheticals and necessarily sketchy.

A fresh perspective may be obtained by considering that our current medical expertise is only a modest upgrade from the days of leeches and bleeding patients. If the human race lasts another 300 years, future physicians and concerned citizens will look back on the 21st century with much of the same horror and bemusement with which we view early 18th-century medicine.

Cancer treatment provides a bracing context. Chemotherapy, ablative surgery, and radiation may be eventually viewed as barbaric rather than "heroic". From another viewpoint, these methods may be the best we have right now. But that doesn't suggest they should be used in all cases. Case-by-case evaluation and treatment would be the most humane approach.

Similarly with percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG)tubing. Whereas these may be useful in the ICU in cases in which survival and quality of life are real considerations, such methods of artificial nutrition/hydration are not appropriate merely for ensuring continued life. What's the value of being alive when you're mostly dead?

In clinical bioethics, nothing is straightforward. It is critically important to have an open mind and leave one's prejudices and preconceptions at the hospital entranceway.

How to Develop Clairsentience

What is Clairsentience?

Clairsentience means ‘clear-feeling’. It is perhaps the most down-to-earth of all the intuitive gifts. Most people use clairsentience on a daily basis. This looks like your feelings sending you intuitive guidance. Just to give a common example: you may experience a feeling of discomfort and then intuitively feel impulsed to look behind you only to see someone staring at you.

How to Overcome a Fear of the Spirit World

A few years ago I really wanted to open up to the spirit realm and learn to connect with my spirit guides, but for months on end, fear stood in my way. I was scared of seeing/hearing ghosts, disembodied voices, evil entities and even my own spirit guides. I felt that hardly anyone could help me overcome this issue and most of those who did just said I had to ‘face the fear’, which I felt wasn’t much help because I was paralyzed by it! Later on I had some help and reassurance from other psychics and had many breakthroughs of my own in my understanding of the spirit world, which helped me to deconstruct my fear and see it for what it was. I will share some of these breakthroughs in this post.
