More Than Meets the Eye, True Stories about Death, Dying, and Afterlife covers many aspects of the dying and grieving process and sheds light on euthanasia, suicide, near-death experience, and spirit visits after the passing of a loved one.

Life is Not a Coincidence – Part 2
Today we continue with our Wednesday series of informative articles created from my podcast interview with Sheryl Glick, the author of Life is Not a Coincidence, a book that tells about the numerous times and ways Sheryl’s loved ones have communicated with her. Here is another one of those instances. You may listen to the entire interview at http://dld.bz/bqFzj.
Yvonne: We still have consciousness in the afterlife, which is evident because of the signs we get from those on the other side of this veil. Talk about some of the signs that your deceased loved ones gave you with the birthdays. I know the number seven and eleven have real significance to you.
Sheryl: My mom passed on 11/7. She was born on the eleventh and she passed on 11/7. Numbers have great meaning for our destiny. The day we’re born and the day we die has great meaning. These things are not random.
My mother had promised me that she would get a message to me from the other side. Actually, she didn’t have much of an understanding of an afterlife but I was starting to believe in it and I said to her, “If anyone can get a message through to me it would be you” She had a very strong will. She was very curious about life and people. I said to her “Mom, what would be the message that you send me?” She said, “I will send three doves.”
I have received the three doves many times but aside from that whenever I see the numbers eleven seven, I feel her presence. There are other numbers that are so indigenous to her that I recognize some of the spirits who are around me. As an empath and medium, I feel the shifts in energy and I know when ghosts are around. It’s very comforting actually. It’s never frightening to me as it might be to some other people because I know they come to help us, to learn from us, or to assist us in fulfilling our destiny and life plan. If I ever were to feel an energy that was uncomfortable I would just disperse it: “One, two, three; you’re not welcome.” But I rarely have any negative energy because I only give out positive energy and deal with higher vibrational beings and loved ones for the purpose of living this life more joyously. Knowing who we are dispels fear and we can enjoy our life more.
Yvonne: Absolutely. Sheryl, you mentioned that your mom gave you the sign of the three doves and that you’ve seen that countless times since then, affirming that she truly is with you. I had a similar situation. I had an aunt who died about two and a half years ago. Before she passed we were sitting together watching The Ghost Whisperer, that CBS show with Jennifer Love Hewitt starring as Melinda Gordon. In this episode ghosts were pulling everything out of the china cabinet and tossing dishes across the room and breaking stuff. I turned to my Aunt Kathryn and said, “You’d better not do that when you’re gone; you better not play jokes on me like that.” She laughed! We agreed then that we would have a sign that would be an indication that she was trying to communicate with me. We picked something that is not seen every day. It’s not something that we could miss or wonder if it was really her. We picked a cameo. Now you don’t see a lot of cameos these days. That was something in the 1800s when a lot of women wore a cameo choker, necklace, or pendant of some sort. I know why we chose it. She lived in a house on Cameo Court when I was a teenager and I loved to visit her there. So we chose the cameo or silhouette to be her sign. Kat was a smoker and she died of lung cancer. After she passed I smelled cigarette smoke in my house periodically throughout one day. Nobody had been in our house with a cigarette. Neither my husband nor I smoke. I immediately thought of my aunt.
Sheryl: Psychic smells are another way that mediums and empaths are able to give information to their clients from relatives who are trying to make themselves known. You just know from certain experiences who it is!
Yvonne: I did! A few hours later my husband came home and he also smelled cigarette smoke. Now that’s was really crazy because but he didn’t spend a lot of time with her like I did growing up. So the next day, I went on Facebook and there was this woman who had sent me a little link to her website and guess what she was selling? CAMEOS! She was selling antique collectable cameos and wanted me to take a look. That was more than coincidence. That didn’t just happen randomly. It was comforting to me for my aunt to give me that sign. It was near her birthday so I thought she was checking in. I told her happy birthday and wished her well in the afterlife and sent her love and light. Then we didn’t smell the cigarette smoke again until almost the anniversary date of her death in November.

Life is Not a Coincidence – Part 1
Sheryl Glick’s book, Life is Not a Coincidence, tells about the numerous times and ways her loved ones have communicated with her. In my podcast interview with her she shared a few of those instances. I’ll post the relevant parts of our conversation in a series of articles on this blog. Look for them each Wednesday. You may listen to the entire interview at http://dld.bz/bqFzj.
Yvonne: How did you begin to communicate with your loved ones on the Other Side?
Sheryl: It all began with a dream that I had 19 years ago or I thought it was a dream. I felt a shadow next to me while I was sick with the flu and sleeping. I felt a shadow and I sensed it was my grandfather, who had been dead for thirty-five years. He was trying to say something to me. I couldn’t hear him with my ears but I sensed that he said that I had to write something for my father. I had no idea what was going on. The next day I got a call from my mother that my father had passed. I wrote Dad’s eulogy but I couldn’t quite believe that my grandfather had really visited me because I had not been brought up to believe in a spiritual visitation or life after death. I just thought it was a dream.
Some years went by and through coincidence I read a book by John Edward, an international medium. He explained the difference between a dream and a spiritual visitation. A spiritual visitation stays with you. It’s like you never forget the feeling or the connection. When I realized that I indeed had a spiritual visitation, I said well where is my grandfather living? How am I going to talk to him again? Why did he come that night? I was off on a mission to learn more about spiritual communication and an afterlife.
Once you have your own experience with a “deceased” loved one, no one can take it away from you. You can read about this experience or talk to other people about it, but until you can actually feel and sense that connection, it’s not real to you. And that’s why it’s so difficult to talk about this with people who have not had those experiences. They’re just not ready to understand that everything is energy and that we are having an energy presence within our soul or essence. You can’t get them to realize that besides this physical life of ego or mind presence we have a duality—we are living two lives and we’re trying to merge the two together to have the best run of this physical life. We have to understand that we are an energy presence as well as a physical presence.
Yvonne: That is why we don’t end just because we exit the body. The spirit may leave the body but that doesn’t mean that’s the end of our existence.
Sheryl: Oh no! That’s the beginning of a new experience of another place. It’s like water. Water can be in three modes. It can be liquid, solid, or gas. It’s the same thing with our essence. We can be in different states of existence.

My Dear Friend is Transitioning
I met Reverend Juliet Nightingale in 2005 when I was gathering information about near-death experience (NDE). Our resulting friendship has given me the courage to not only talk about my near-death and spiritually transforming experiences, I also wrote More Than Meets the Eye, True Stories About Death, Dying, and Afterlife, for which Juliet so kindly wrote the foreword. She continued to believe in me and urged others to purchase my/our book on her Web site and whenever she had speaking engagements.
Now, our dear Juliet is coming to the end of this Earthly life, and is in hospice care. We expect to hear the news any day that her spirit has left her body. Thankfully, her daughter is keeping a group of Juliet's close friends up to date on the transitioning process so we can support her with our love and prayers.
I fully expect Juliet will visit me in spirit, but probably not until she's had a chance to soar, fly, ride the rides, see the sites, reconnect with friends, and have fun experiencing the Other Side--that place she has longed for all these years since having her first NDE in the 1970s. If you know Juliet, you've probably heard her talk about the afterlife as if it were as real as this Earth plane, and I agree with her that it is as real.
As part of her legacy, Juliet started a Ning Group called Light on the Water as an NDE support and interest group for people who've had spiritually transforming experiences to be able to discuss them in a safe place. It's also a great place for researchers, caregivers, seekers, and media to get more information. I encourage you to check out the group to see if it is right for you.

The Day Nanny Had Hip Surgery
Surgery went well. She'll be in recovery unit until about 9 p.m. then returned to a private room. The surgeon told us he had it fixed to heal properly. However, we were told that she will be using a wheelchair for months (possibly from now on).
I offered to stay at the hospital with Nanny so my mom could go home and rest. Mom says she's afraid I can't handle it if Nanny were to pass during my watch. I assured her that Nanny and I have both been to the Other Side and back and that we have an understanding rather than a fear of such things.
Nanny is resting in her room now, but she was freaking out when she first came back because she thought she was in a nursing home. When she heard MawMaw's (my mom) voice, she calmed down and her BP went into normal range. There was no way Mom would leave her there alone tonight so I came back to the house to rest up. That way I'll be fresh to let Mom come home and rest tomorrow when Nanny is more coherent. The nurses have been very attentive to her and I feel confident that they will make sure Mom and Nanny have all they need throughout the night. They had brought clear liquids and were helping her sip through a straw when I was leaving. So, all in all, things are going well. By the way, It's her right side that was injured.

Ready to Go?
My grandmother turned 92 last July. Two weeks ago (November 7) she fell in the kitchen in the home she shares with my parents. She broke her hip and arm, overcame surgery, and was released from the hospital in less than a week. She was doing well until her in-home nurse discovered that Nanny's oxygen level was low. Tanks could not be delivered without doctors prescription and the doctor could not prescribe it without seeing the patient, so back to the hospital (by ambulance) she went. X-ray revealed pneumonia in her left lung. She had an MRI today of her stomach and abdomen to see where the infection in her blood is coming from.
My honest opinion is that her soul is ready to depart from her body and is looking for a way out. Why? Because she wants to be on the Other Side when my aunt Kat arrives. Kat is in hospice care for terminal lung cancer.
It is only natural for the body to try to heal itself. Does the soul override the will of the body? I can't answer that question. Therefore, I remain unattached to the outcome. If Nanny or Kat is done with her Earthly mission and wish to depart, it is their choice, not mine. Of course I would miss them. I am close to both of them, but I would not blame them or be angry if they chose to leave. My choice is to be as supportive and loving as possible while attending to their needs in the interim.

Common Signs of a Near Death Experience
We come to this planet with amnesia about our soul’s identity and live behind a veil in order to function as a human being. The brain does not consciously remember where the soul came from, but it seems as though a part of the soul remains on the other side and is able to subconsciously participate in both worlds simultaneously; whether through dreams, meditation, hypnosis, inner guidance, or psychic abilities.
There are accounts where the veil has been momentarily lifted or pierced and one has clear vision of the Other Side. People, who have clinically died and returned to their body, give remarkable accounts about life after death. The stories that many of them tell about the hereafter are consistent with one another and may include:
• Someone to welcome the soul
• A guide to lead the way
• A review of the life the soul has lived
• A visit to a library or hall of records
• Periods of study or recreation
• A reporting to a council of wise elders
• An overwhelming sense of love and acceptance
• Other realms of the universe
• Heavenly gardens
• Sparkling cities
• Hellish surroundings

Fear of Death is Gone
After having a near-death experience (NDE), many people report that their fear of death is gone. That was certainly true for me after being so close to death during the fire. In fact, there have been numerous times since then when I have wanted to leave my body and go Home. That doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t react with panic if someone grabbed me in a dark parking lot and shoved a gun in my face. It means that when I think about dying, I have no worry about what is to come.
If we really believe that what exists on the other side is peace, joy, a reuniting with loved ones, and the absence of distress of any kind, we would not fear death. Near-death experiences give us insight on the Afterlife. Those who have visited the “Other Side” have amazing and comforting stories about what they experienced.
