What to Do When a Deceased Love One is Bothering You

At first it is comforting. Ah, your sweet aunt came to visit you three days after her funeral. You smelled her cologne and remembered some nice day you spent shopping with her. Then, she's there the next week, and the week after that, and the next thing you know she's there all day and making herself at home. Spirit visitations seem to occur more often around the holidays or some event that may be significant to the deceased—like a birth/death day, anniversary date, or family reunion. With Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, I think it is fitting to address this now.

I get emails from readers who many times are having issues with deceased loved ones or other earthbound spirits (or soul aspect that did not cross over) who want to hang around those who are still in body. Some spirits or ghosts can be disruptive, like a house guest that won't leave or go home when the party is over. I want to address this and gives some tips on how to deal with the deceased loved one who is making themselves a pest in your home or personal space.

This invasion (even though this spirit is your mom or dad, brother or sister, etc.) is like having a friend show up at your door uninvited everyday and stay until all hours while disrespecting your privacy. They may watch you in the shower, hover over you while you are in bed, and even move stuff around in your house. This type of spirit visitation is not comforting and personally, I would not allow it.

Many times simply asking the spirit to leave and then burning some sage in the house will suffice for clearing. However, if this does not work, then ask yourself what you are doing to allow or require this entity a presence there. Is there some unfinished business between the two of you? Identify what this business might be. Was there an argument prior to his/her death? Were you their caregiver and now they feel obligated to you? Did you inherit some piece of furniture, jewelry, car, house, money, or other possession that this person held dear?

Call in your angels and highest guidance aligned with the Light and then sit down with this loved one and say whatever it is you need to say. Thank them for being in your life while they were in body and let them know that you love them, but need them to leave. Let them know that you appreciate the personal belonging that you inherited and that you will treasure it for as long as it is with you.


Most deceased loved ones do not want to cause harm to their family members—they just don't know they are being a bother. Tell them how they are negatively affecting you. Your grandmother/grandfather may have something to say to you that will give her/him the peace and resolution she/he needs to move on. When you feel that you have found resolution and the karma has been cleared between the two of you, (this should not take more than one session, so don't let them manipulate you into having more "pow-wows" or heart-to-heart talks) it is time to call upon archangels Michael and Chamuel and ask them to escort this entity to the light or some place in the afterlife where he/she can continue with soul development and ascension.

Because karmic patterns leave energy threads, you may still sense a slight (but much less pronounced) presence after the clearing. Don't let this trick you into thinking that the spirit is still there—that would open a door or extend an invitation for their return visit. This is the time to remind yourself that all karma has been resolved and that you are free to live your life without the influence of others, incarnated or dis-incarnated. Ask your higher guidance or angels to remove the karmic threads and fill those vacant spaces with the energy of love, light, peace, joy, grace, gentleness, or whatever you feel is appropriate.

Clearing Entities and Earthbound Spirits

Disincarnate spirits (“deceased” human beings) can exert a subtle or direct influence—both good and bad—upon humans. They may influence us without our awareness by offering inspiration that we express through writing, speaking, and other creative or artistic ventures. Or they may tempt us to do something harmful to a living creature or distract us from doing something that we know is in our best interest.

It is easy to distinguish between more evolved and less advanced spirits. The language of more evolved spirits is honorable and free of bias; these may be our spirit guides. Lesser evolved spirits may use harsh language and urge us to react to situations through our ego rather than responding through the mind/heart of God-Goddess. The ego believes in the need to suffer, feel guilty, judge self and others, and do whatever it takes to defend its position.  There are more humans inhabiting the planet than ever. That means there are a higher number of entities on the Earth plane as well. Author Ethan Vorly shares that entities are the unresolved karma or crystallization that was housed in the astral body of someone who has died and was not cremated. We know that fire and smoke are purifying agents, and this is probably why many ancient cultures performed last rites for a departing soul and burned the physical body on a funeral pyre. This is said to dismantle the astral body and transmute its negative karma. If this is true, then it certainly explains why we have seen such a huge increase in violence, depression, and suicide since embalming and burial became the preferred method of disposing of a physical body upon death.  The energetic pattern that was attached to the astral body of a human host during an incarnation is shed like a snake skin when that host dies. As the soul ascends into higher planes and crosses into the light, the astral body is left behind to roam the Earth plane where it seeks a new host with a similar frequency. During the ascension, people are suddenly becoming more able to see, feel, hear, sense, and even smell the presence of earth-bound spirits. I’ve dealt with earthbound spirits on many occasions. Jesus confronted them as well; if someone asked Him to remove the “demon” (as they were called in the Bible), He obliged.  Earthbound spirits feed off the energy of humans in order to remain active. They target humans who have similar fixations as their own. It might be someone with a drug or alcohol abuse problem, someone with emotional distress in their life, trauma, abuse, or someone who is simply ungrounded or not fully participating in their own spiritual development. So when an earthbound spirit finds a human in a state of despair, having weak or no boundaries, the earthbound spirit may attach itself to that person’s electromagnetic energy field that surrounds the body and is sometimes referred to as the aura. Not only does the entity start siphoning energy from the host, the negative energy of the entity contaminates the aura, causing the human host to feel out of sorts, have dysfunctional thoughts, feel physically sick, experience rampant emotions, or have cravings that are not their own. You may find them interesting and informative.  The best way to keep entities away is to raise your personal vibration through spiritual purification practices. Keeping your thoughts pure requires a constant effort, but as you vibrate at a purer level, these entities are less apt to bother you. It also helps to keep your aura close to your body and remove any negative or stuck energy so that these entities are no longer attracted to you. Keep focusing on the light within you, using affirmations, mantras, and clearing exercises such as smudging with sage. If things are really bad or an entity has been attached to your home or auric field for some time, you might want to use the alcohol and Epsom salt recipe mentioned in my book about personal ascension.  As you start to clear your field and remove layers of unresolved karma (anything not aligned with the law of grace), things can seem worse rather than better for a short while. I urge you to persevere and not quit in the process. For example, once you have cleared (or while clearing) a negative mental pattern, you may expose a dark entity, which was feeding on the energy surrounding a misaligned thought pattern. The issue brought to the light removed the entity’s energy source, which can feel unsettling for the host and the entity. Since at some time in your past you gave the entity permission (most likely you were unaware of doing so) to stay and influence you, you are the one who needs to dismiss it from its duties and help it move on.  Dr. Caron Goode says that when she did past life regression, hypnosis, and light-trance sessions, she always asked the client, “Why did you create or attract this entity?” Rather than trying to “drive out demons” you may simply need to thank the entity for the purpose it served and send it into the light. However, to get an entity to go into the light, it must first realize that there is a light to go into and that it will be a pleasant experience—many do not want to go there for fear of punishment.  Remember, earthbound souls are former humans now without bodies. The reason souls become earthbound is due to their emotional problems, and just like humans in a body, they need healing. Remain non-resistant by offering compassion to these lost souls. They need the same love and light we do. They don’t respond well to techniques that attempt to remove them by force. In fact, this can make things worse because even if the entity leaves, it may only be temporary, and when it returns it may be angry and seeking revenge.  The reason many clearings fail is because the person doing the clearing does not open the entity to its deeper subconscious feelings. Entities need to recognize and heal their deeper emotional scars. Free them from their misery by helping them see the role they are playing in the lives of embodied souls. Ethan Vorly writes: “Once the entity feels these deeper underlying emotions, it automatically allows the light in, which quickly transforms it. They are always sorry for what they have done and become loving beings as they are absorbed into the light where they are freed from all pain. Helping Souls Cross Over

A new friend of mine recently told me that she had started letting spirits communicate with her. For a long time, she had let the "whisperings" pass by—dismissing them as her imagination. Last week, she decided to follow up on the things that they were telling her. Doing some Internet research on the names, events, and places they were giving her, she was able to confirm that these souls were truly identifying themselves with facts that could be proven historically. She has a desire to help them cross over. Since she is a newbie at doing this, I gave her some pointers that I'd like to share with you as well.

If you want to work directly with the souls to cross them over, I hope you will do so by calling in your spiritual guidance team (ascended masters, angels, etc.) to "screen your calls" so to speak. I was so bombarded by ghosts at one point that I decided to stop working with these lost souls. I didn't want to close down my ability to hear and see in the spirit realm, but I needed a break from all the intrusions. I wasn't bothered by them for a while. That is until I consciously agreed to make my shift into using my business endeavors to accomplish my spiritual mission, which includes communicating with those who have passed.

I was hesitant about opening myself up to this sort of thing again, so I put some strong boundaries in place about what type of souls I would consciously work with. As part of setting boundaries with entities (as I mentioned in my book for empathic and energy-sensitive people, Whose Stuff Is This?) I work with my guidance team, which includes Archangels Michael and Chamuel and ascended Masters Jesus Christ and Quan Yin. While I am energetically aware when there is an entity in my vicinity, the only ones who get to interact with me are the ones who actually have a pertinent message to deliver. Otherwise, my guides work directly with the lost souls who come to me for help. My guides help them cross over without my conscious participation.

Spirit Guides - How to Connect and Communicate With Them

What are Spirit Guides?

Many people believe that everyone has a Spirit Guide (or Guides) - entities that come from the Spirit world, who you can contact and communicate with, and who are ready and willing to help and assist you as you walk the Earth.

They are believed to be loved ones who have passed, ancient ancestral spirits, or even spirits from the Angelic Realm, and are assigned at birth to protect and support us.

Your Spirit Guides have learned many lessons and may well have also crossed your path on Earth in past lives. They know you very well, your strengths and weaknesses, and your abilities and your hopes and fears - and they know your destiny.

Your Spirit Guides are always willing to help and support you, but will not interfere in your life without a specific invitation.

Connecting with your Spirit Guides

Simple meditation is recognised as the best way to contact your personal Spirit Guides. Meditation is simply the process of calming your thoughts, slowing down, and focusing on a particular outcome or particular thing.

Spending fifteen minutes a day stilling your mind will be beneficial not only for contacting your personal Spirit Guides, but it will help you relax and enable you to reach some inner peace and calm that most of us have forgotten.

Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Try to make it a special place and a special time in your day. To create a pleasing ambience, pull the shades or dim the lights, play some soft music, light candles and incense sticks.

To help increase awareness of your personal Spirit Guides and shift attention away from the Earthly Plane, we will create a special place in your mind where you can meet them.

Relax in a comfortable chair, close your eyes and take some deep breaths. Every time you exhale, feel the stresses and worries of the day leave your body with every breath. Notice the sinking feeling when you breath out, and use this as a vehicle to allow you to let go and relax even more.

Imagine now a woodland path, bathed in mottled sunlight that filters through the leafy branches above. The air is warm and a soft breeze wafts the fresh smell of scented flowers over you. This can be a place in your imagination, or a real place you have visited.

Walk now along the well-worn path and come to a clearing in the woods. The clearing is bathed in a strong light, like a sunbeam. Enter the light.

This will be your sacred space and when you come here you will feel protected, safe and comfortable. This is a special place where the spiritual world meets the physical world - a place you have created with the power of your imagination.

Notice that the light you stand in is made up of the rainbow spectrum, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

For each colour in turn, look at it directly as it falls at your feet. Sense it. Tap into its meaning. Remember what you see, what you hear, what you feel, what you smell. Look at the colour very carefully.

Do this for each colour and then move your focus to the final colour, Violet.

Now see a distant figure walking towards you. They will ask if they can enter the light to be with you. Here will be your personal Spirit Guide.

You can now ask questions. But don't be disappointed if you receive no answers. Answers may come to you later, and often when you are not expecting them.

Rather than hearing something, you might get a feeling or a sensation of something. This will be the beginning for you. They may present you with a gift, or may speak to you by answering a question you have posed, or just some words of comfort or inspiration. If this is the first time of meeting, they may tell you their name. You may recognise this name, or not.

Practice connecting to your Spirit Guides at least once per day. Soon it will become easier for you, and like second nature.

When you are ready to leave, thank your Spirit Guide. Open your eyes and spend a few moments relaxed, and get acclimatised once more to the Earthly realm.

Speaking with A Ghost in My House

A week or so ago, things began disappearing and then reappearing in my house. I would go to a location where I knew something should be and the item would not be there. I would search thoroughly before finally giving up. A few moments later, I would go back to the location and it would be there in plain site; or else I'd ask my husband if he had seen the item and he would walk to the exact place I had looked and pick up, giving me a puzzled look as to why I couldn't see it. This happened about five times and I was pretty certain there was a ghost in our house. It felt like the spirit of a child--young, innocent, curious, and playful.

Next, two framed photographs that had stood in place for years began to fall over of their own accord. This one was insistent upon getting my attention, but I really didn't want to deal with a ghost. The next day a client of mine called and said he sensed his deceased uncle was trying to get in touch with him but he was having trouble connecting and hearing. He asked if I would listen for a message. So, THAT'S who the ghost was! It made sense.The uncle was a light-hearted fellow who died young.

I called upon my guides to retrieve the message and bring it to me in a format that I could decipher. Not only was the uncle present in this listening session, his brother (my client's dad) also came through. My client was relieved and comforted by what these men had to say to him.

What a privilege it is to be able to share information from deceased loved ones. I remember when I used to pray several times a day (for many years) for all nine gifts of the Holy Spirit to manifest through me. Believe me, the gift of discerning of spirits has not ceased!!

How to Detect the Presence of Ghosts and Other Spirits

Haunting happens - it's more popular than many people would like to think. One of the practical aspects of every book that discusses ghosts and other paranormal activities, is a way to test if your house is haunted. In other words - how to detect the presence of ghosts and spirits? There are many ways to do so, that I'm going to describe right now.

Cold Spots

One of the most popular phenomenons regarding haunting and ghosts is called "cold spots". As the name states, those are the spots of cold air that can be sensed out of nowhere. Imagine that you're walking through warm corridor, and suddenly you can sense cold space. You're making few steps forward, and it's warm again. You're going back, and cold spot is still there. It is believed for cold spots to be places where ghosts and spirits draw psychic energies to sustain their own "life" energies. Just be careful not to consider air-conditioner for paranormal activity, please.

Sensing the Presence

Another way to detect the presence of ghosts would be to literally sense a presence of someone or something, when physically there's no one around - no people, no animals. Like you stand in the kitchen, and out of no where you can sense there's someone else in the room - you're looking around, but there is nothing but dinner on the table.

Mood changes

Ghosts and spirits, depending on their nature, can change mood in single room, or whole room. Imagine that you're watching good comedy in TV and suddenly you want to cry - it might suggest there's some sad spirit in the room. Spirits and ghosts can also create happy mood, or negative or even aggressive emotions.

Objects moving

Some intelligent spirit (meaning conscious ghosts) can move objects with invisible means. Different items might disappear and then appear in completely other place, or ghosts might also move things while you watch them (it's quite an interesting view, I have to admit).

Those are active ways of detection. You can also detect ghosts with passive means, this is - by assuming that things like weird shadows, or astral lights might suggest a presence in the building. Sometimes also nightmares, or obsessive thoughts, and finally weird behaviours of animals might suggest some paranormal activity in your house.

As you can see, there are quite a few methods of detecting the presence of ghosts and spirits. Keep them in mind, but remember to remain skeptical - not every air-conditioner is ghost.

Prayer to Keep Ghosts Away and Help Souls Cross Over

A friend of mine that I met in a Facebook community shared a story about his intuitive gifts beginning to open up. I’ll call him Dee to protect his identity. This experience was frightening for Dee at first because he began sensing earthbound spirits around him while he was in the synagogue. First of all, let me remind everyone that we all have spirits around us—its’ just a fact of life—but most people don’t see, hear, or sense them.

Dee’s story brought a flood of love and joy to my heart chakra. Instead of rewriting and retelling his story in third person, I’ll simply copy and paste what he shared in the group. I’m sensing that someone reading this blog needs this information.

I closed my eyes and sought out to discern the presence. I felt the same confirming sensation I had when I encountered something in the synagogue. I smiled warmly and said quietly, "Well... hello! When did you get down here?" It was a young girl, I guessed to be around 8-11. She was shy and about as startled as I was. She pulled back some but stayed in the room, listening to me. I told her she was welcome to stay as long as she could behave herself and respect some boundaries. With my wife fussing for me to come up to eat, I left her to the room.

Later that evening when putting my three daughters to bed, I could feel her in their room. My oldest daughter, who has been watching me with great interest since my empathic revelation, also picked up on this. We suddenly smelled lilies in one area of the room. There were a few more incidents like that through the evening, each time accompanied by the lily scent. 

When I went to let the dogs out later that night, my daughter was outside with me, barraging me with questions. Suddenly I felt the girl’s spirit about 25 feet from us, with a strong scent of lilies again. We both stood there. My daughter said, "She's here again, isn't she?" I confirmed. As the girl walked closer to us I felt her presence pushing into my aura shield. The hair on my arm closest to her immediately stood on-end and I had the obligatory goosebumps to boot. She walked right between me and my daughter, trailed by the lilies. For a few minutes we could sense her in different areas of the backyard. We lingered for a few minutes until it seemed like she left.

The next morning when I awoke, I went back down to the lower level to plop on the sofa for a few more minutes of precious shut-eye before getting ready for work. After my alarm went off I slowly sat up and put my feet on the floor. Suddenly I heard one of the kids' electronic educational toys start up. The spirit girl was playing with it! ;D I chuckled, said “good morning” and told her to have fun. My daughter called me later in the day to give me a brief on how things were going. Her "friend" would come and go through the day. 

I recalled from the night before, when I smelled the flowers outside, I also smelled fresh earth. I felt an inclination that she was a recent passing and possibly in need of help. I decided on the way home, I'd stop by a cemetery that was within walking distance of our house. I even felt which area I needed to investigate. Sure enough I found it. Born April 16th, 2000, passed on March 27, 2011. I felt so sad for her. I knelt there and spoke a few minutes out loud. I spoke encouraging words, told her I also didn't understand why things happened the way they did. I said she was welcome to visit with us anytime she wanted, as long as she would honor boundaries. I said with YAH's help I would do whatever I could to help her. I spoke a few more things and finally ended up encouraging her to go to the light, that YAH was there and it would be okay. He'd help her and explain things to her.

When I was at the little girl's gravesite, I saw a mist-like figure walk by. I felt strongly motivated to tell the other spirits not to follow me home. I came there respectfully and expected the same from them. I wish I had a mentor nearby!

As I got home and the night went on, I kept searching for her presence but it never came. A longing sadness began to gnaw at me as I started to wonder what it meant. When my oldest daughter returned from choir, she asked me if I'd sensed the little girl. I told her how I'd been feeling. She started tearing up, and said how when she was eating a bite downstairs she felt a wave of sadness come upon her. We both stood together and sobbed (other family members oblivious to it all). The sadness we felt was not of an evil variety; it was more like the sadness felt upon a loved one's departure. Oy, so much to bear. I never would have guessed a month ago something like this would have happened. Adonai certainly does work in mysterious ways at times, like the old saying goes.


Dee’s wife is angry at him for having these abilities. She avoided sleeping in the same room with him for two nights following the event and hasn't spoken about it since. Like Dee, when I was younger I had no one I could trust to talk to about things like this. My first marriage ended in part because of the spiritual awakening I was experiencing at the time. As a religious church attender, I didn't have a clue what to do about these souls who were coming to me for help.

Other people on the FB chat chimed in with comforting comments about how they also sense the presence of ancestors, friends, and pets who have passed on. Some have had night visitations in which dark entities tried to crush the breath out of them. I had a similar experience when I was in my twenties. I would interact with dark beings during my dream states and be paralyzed as I awoke. All I knew to do was call on Jesus and the angels for protection and comfort. That's exactly what one needs to do--call upon your trusted guidance of light beings who have a pure vibration. They will assist you, I assure you!

There’s no need to be afraid of the earthbound spirits around you. Spirit visits are very common and nothing to be alarmed about. Most are not wishing to harm you. Some souls need help finding the light.  I am so proud of Dee for what he did to help this little spirit girl. He did the right thing in setting boundaries with other entities while assisting this little girl's soul to cross over. 

Unless you know how to help them, I don’t advise you to acknowledge the presence of earthbound spirits unless you are willing to engage with them and open yourself up to more visits. However, you may be called to do this type of mediumship work, but remember you don't work alone in this task. Ask the angels, archangels, and ascended masters to assist you and surround you with their purest light.  Ask them to deal with the lost soul as you focus on the love and light within you. For many years I have assisted earthbound spirits in crossing over. Here is a prayer I use for this purpose:

Thank you, ALL THAT IS, for awakening my divine Ka and helping me merge my higher self with my physical body and to embody divine master presence and Christ self in a loving and gentle way. My body is the temple of light in which Christ presence dwells. Thank you for allowing me to accept and experience myself as one with you. 

The Violet flame of St. Germaine surrounds me to deflect detrimental energies/entities. Archangels Michael and Chamuel are in place to help lost souls find the light and cross over into a peaceful place in the afterlife. I trust that this process is occurring without my being consciously aware of it and without having to interact personally with these lost souls.

I have no fear because the love of I AM casts out all fear. I have a sound mind that thinks in line with ALL THAT IS. I am willing to change, grow, evolve, and ascend in order to accomplish my divine mission in this lifetime.

Thank you for allowing me to know freedom from my ego and to be at complete peace.

So it is now and forever.


Whatever gifts you have been bestowed with will come forth as the earth continues to experience a shift into a purer consciousness. Everyone is opening up to the spirit world.

Setting Boundaries With Spirits

That 100-foot voting boundary line sure seems to be getting closer to the door these days. As I walked through the exterior corridor to the library, I heard voices calling out on both sides of me:

"Would you be so kind as to vote for Candidate B?"
"I'm Candidate A. Thank you for voting for me today, ma'am."
"Please vote for Mr. Candidate."
"'Pre-shate yer vote for me. I'm running fer metro council."

It reminded me of the vendors hawking their wares in the villa when we visited the Dominican Republic. Every seller was offering some kind of bargain to passersby, trying to get the attention and money of every customer and beat out the competition.

I also got a mental picture of disembodied spirits (ghosts) who constantly surround us, yelling negative messages and trying to get us to do their bidding. There are energy-sensitive people who don't realize that the angry thoughts, criticism, depression, and other unloving voices they hear in their heads are not just their own mind chatter. These negative messages are actually attempts that Earth-bound spirits make to leech off our energy and fulfill their base desires through a human.

Brother's Spirit Visits Sister at His Time of Death

A reader named Iris sent me the following story about her brother visiting her in a dream at the moment of his death. He was in the hospital and she was at home. At the end of her story she asks a question that I would like to address. "Did he just sneak to my house before the angels got a hold of him and dressed him in white?" Read on . . . Here's Iris:

My older brother Hector had cirrhosis in the liver. He was a strong Christian. He was admitted to the hospital the night of November 20 1999. It was five days before my birthday. November 25th he called my house complaining about the hospital food and wanted me to bring him some rice and beans. I spoke to his nurse and she warned me not to bring him anything because his liver wasn't filtering and any wrong food can be a toxin to him.

I visited my brother that same night and he surprised me with a piece of cake and a candle. That was so sweet of him. I explained to him about the rice and beans. We spent lots of time giggling and talking about Thanksgiving dinner.

On November 27th I had a dream that Hector came to my room and kissed my hand. He was dressed in his hospital gown. He said, " I just came to say goodbye, Sis."

That morning I woke up and my room was freezing cold and it stunk like hospital. It was 6 a.m. Everything felt so weird and off key but I got up, took a shower, and did my normal routine. That afternoon I called the hospital to see how my brother was doing. The nurse told me to come in immediately. When I got there they told me my brother was dead. "HUH?" I asked how come no one had called me. They had called while I was in the shower. I asked what time he died. They said that at 5:45 am he went into coma and his heart stopped. They tried to resuscitate him but they couldn't.

As long as I live I will never forget the fact that my brother came to me in my dream to say goodbye. I don't get it though. Did he just sneak to my house before the angels got a hold of him and dressed him in white?

To answer Iris' question, I must first of all note that this is a Christian family. Nothing wrong with that, but the western Christian faith interprets the Bible with some inaccurate things regarding the afterlife. Since there is no literal place known as heaven or hell (other than what we create in our minds; and that is done more here on earth than in the afterlife), some souls choose to hang around their loved ones—especially near the time of death and several days or week after the spirit departs from the body. Just like the soul who comes here from the Other Side and takes residence in the body of a baby, there may be some disorientation to begin with. (This doesn't seem to be the case with Iris' brother. He knew he was leaving and seemed glad to venture on.) Once the soul acclimates to being bodiless, it may move on to other realms. However, some stay around indefinitely. We might call them earth-bound spirits.

Just as in this earth life where we have freedom to choose, so it is in the afterlife. We may travel (as we do many times in our dreams) to visit other people, places, and even explore new experiences. Having a loved one's spirit visit is a very common occurrence and truly a blessing as in this case where the brother loving said goodbye to his dear sister. Isn't that a joy to know that he cared so much to do that?

The fact that he didn't return again probably means that he felt she was able to handle his departure, or that he visits in her dream state and she doesn't consciously remember it. Or, he may be giving Iris signs that she's not recognizing.

My grandfather's spirit visited me late one evening this week. He passed in 1988 and visited me quite often in the years following, but it had been probably six or more years since I last felt his presence near me. When I used to cut his hair I could smell the "old man" pheromones coming from his scalp. It was this same smell that let me know it was him when I sensed his presence in my bedroom as I was falling asleep.

Spirits communicate with us through all senses and they give us signs such as leaving an object in your path about which you might say, "Oh, my brother loved [name the item]." The fact that you are being reminded of him, is a good indication that he is popping in to check on you. It's so good to know that we are able to communicate our love from the Other Side to those on this earth plane. The soul of never dies.

How Do Mediums Help Lost Souls?

Someone asked me a question this week: "Why do you think some people have spirits come to them all the time--even people they don't know--and others never have such an experience. And if I want to have an interaction, whether with my Mom again or someone else, do we have any ability to make that happen, or do we have to just wait for it to happen to us (if it ever does)?

Here's my answer:

Everyone has some spiritual gift or psychic ability. Some people develop their gifts by practicing--like those who give aura readings or do energy work or Reiki.

Those who have multiple unrelated spirits come to them are probably mediums or gatekeepers between the spirit realm and our world of form. I have finally accepted that I am a medium. It took years for me to claim that title, but I guess it fits.

At one time I had so many disembodied souls coming to me to help them cross over or go to the light, I was being awakened at all hours with plasma/essence hovering over my bed. Things were moving around in the house. I saw streaks of light flash thorough my hallway where there is no window. It got to be such a bother that I asked my guides what I could do to curb the conscious activity and still help these souls.

I was lead to a deck of archangel cards by Doreen Virtue. I did an angel card reading with this deck and having my situation in mind. The cards I drew had information about Michael and Chamuel. I intuitively knew that those were the two who could help me with this situation.

I began to ask them every time I meditated to stay near me and help those earth-bound spirits or "lost" souls find their way home. FYI-- I refer to the lost as those who can't find their way to a peaceful afterlife experience. It has nothing to do with salvation as some religions teach. Since it is my spirit or higher self working with these souls, I asked the archangels to allow me to help these souls without me having to be consciously aware of the work I'm doing. Well, it worked. I immediately stopped having these uninvited visitors.

Oh, I also asked the archangels to allow my loved ones or spirit guides to have access to me in the conscious realm. I didn't want to turn away a loved one in need. I also ask these two archangels to assess each soul's need and if there is something I need to do physically (such as say a prayer or light a candle) to help them, I am to be notified so I may consciously participate. Such was the case when someone is dying and needs help leaving their body.

Mediums are gatekeepers and the door swings both ways. I don't just help souls exit; I've also been called upon to help bring souls into bodies on the earth plane.

Seeing Ghosts and Departed Loved Ones

Why do some people see, hear or sense the presence of departed loved ones, angels or spirit guides while others do not? Possibly some people are more psychic than others because they have been equipped or gifted with these tools in order to fulfill their life’s mission.

Maybe they are here to serve as intuitive healers, psychic detectives, spiritual readers—occupations that require the ability to converse with the other side. I believe that everyone has some degree of psychic ability that can be developed. Maybe you hear and see in the spirit world, but don’t acknowledge it or want to admit it!

Jesus said over and over again, “Blessed are those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.”

Perhaps he was referring to those who can see through the veil that separates the world of physical and non-physical. Some say that seeing is believing, but I think that one must believe before they can see. Everything that we call “reality” exists because we believed, at some point, that it could be. Whether it’s drawing a picture, rearranging your furniture, decorating a cake, making a golf shot or inventing a new tool; whenever you create something, you at least have a mental concept of what it might look like or how it might operate. The Bible says that God calls those things that are not, as if they already are. In other words, what you believe affects what you experience. The good news is you can always change what you believe! Following are some ways to enhance your ability to see and hear in other dimensions and to interact with angels and deceased loved ones:

• Practice thoughts of non-separation (believe you can see/hear)
• Remove limiting beliefs and self-talk
• Heal past wounds that block the psychic gateways
• Practice energy work (such as Reiki) to remove clutter from your auric field or space
• Train your eye to see finer vibrations (learn to read auras). Also watch for plasma splotches or multi-colored sparkling light trails when in a dark or dimly lit room. You may get mental pictures rather than seeing with your physical eyes.
• Listen quietly during meditation. The most common way people experience the Other Side is through an internal voice that may sound like their own voice or the voice of their loved one.
• Be aware of an energy shift around you or a change in temperature in the environment. This may feel similar to the times when you’ve caught someone staring at you from across the room—you could “feel” them looking at you.
• Trust any sense of “knowing” you get. We all have intuition!

Where Do We Go When We Die?

There are many realms and dimensions that souls may visit once they leave their human body. The direction a soul takes upon departure from the body depends upon the state of mind a person is in when he or she dies. Some who depart suddenly or violently are not aware that they have died and may spend time wandering around the earth plane, confused. Others who are more prepared for the transition are greeted by loved ones on the other side.

Those who were emotionally exhausted or who had been physically/mentally ill prior to death may go to a place of rest and recovery to allow the spirit to heal from its earthly experience. After a life review to determine areas that need work, the soul moves on to a level or dimension that matches its current vibratory rate where it may continue to evolve. Some more enlightened souls may be ready to assist as a spirit guide to a human who is in body. Those who spent their earth life engaging in selfish or harmful behavior may remain stuck in that mental condition, roaming around aimlessly until they realize they need to seek the Light and change their ways.

Encounters with Earth-bound Spirits

Almost everyone I interviewed for this book told me that they sensed the presence of their loved ones near them during the funeral, graveside ceremony and in the days following. I've had several encounters with earth-bound spirits. These are souls who may have recently left their body and have no direction what they should do next. Sometimes they stay only a few days before someone from the Other Side comes to assist them, but many times they remain stuck for decades or perhaps centuries. As a novice medium, I've had many of these spirits come to me for assistance.

In one of my lunchtime drives through the cemetery, I came upon a fresh grave and felt compelled to stop. As I sat there eating my lunch, I became aware of a presence in the back seat of my car so I started a conversation with what felt like a male energy. I nodded toward the mound of red dirt and asked him if that was where they put his body. He affirmed that it was. I asked him why he was still hanging around in the cemetery.

He replied, “Where am I supposed to go?”

I told him to go to the Light, but he said he was afraid to because he hadn't lived a very good life. I told him that God loves him no matter what kind of life he lived. Then, I asked the angels to come and assist him in finding his place in the Afterlife. I heard him thank me as he was whooshed upward through the roof on the passenger side of my car.
